Statusnet to Facebook page push problem
As part of our continuing strategy of internet expansion, it would seem wise to summarize a problem I'm having.

We have a #statusnet account Els Mussols on #parlementum. This successfully pushes to our #twitter account elmussol.

Parlementum has the #facebook bridge enabled, so I am pushing to my partner's personal FB page pretty successfully. We would like however to push it to the finca page: ElsMussolsXerta. Statusnet/facebook login is via email address, so I am struggling to find a way to push to the correct place.

Statusnet/facebook gurus' comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

As you can tell from my flurry of new contacts, I have not been picking up new contact notifications. The indicator number is broken in #testbubble theme. I am aware this is perhaps unlikely to be fixed... #friendica #bug

First day of 2012 so decisions to be made about #erc2012. First book is going to be two novels by Marcel Pagnol, Jean De Florette and Manon of the Springs, collectively The Water of the Hills. These are a reread of an established favourite.

Additionally I have set up a LibraryThing collection for ERC2012.

This reread is the first since I moved to Catalunya, and as they always do the #books bring to mind the #films. More on that later I'm sure, but it has suddenly made me realize how alike Provence and here are terms of how it looks.

I use the excellent #newsbeuter for my #rss feeds and my default browser at the moment is #uzbl. Part of newsbeuter's functionality is to launch a feed item in a browser. The config is its most basic of the form:

browser "$browser %u"

If I do:

browser "uzbl-tabbed %u"

I get a new uzbl instance, what I would like to happen is it to check for an existing instance and then add a new tab. The following did such a thing for #elinks:

browser "bash -c 'pgrep elinks && elinks -remote \"openURL(%u, new-tab)\" || elinks %u'"

I can't seem to get a syntax that works for uzbl however.

So back to the original problem, which is to get newsbeuter to launch a page in a new tab in an existing uzbl-tabbed instance.

I am no scripter but I believe that the following line should work in my newsbeuter config:

browser "bash -c '/home/r7/.config/uzbl/scripts/uzbl-tabbed.sh %u'"

No such luck... Any advice from #bash gurus?
#bash

Solution! The following line works in newsbeuter config (note name change in script):

browser "/home/r7/.config/uzbl/scripts/uzbl-newtab.sh %u"

I love it when a plan comes together.

Books, mostly... pretty good ones. I'll probably start reading Luka (Rushdie) tomorrow. Also: touchscreen-enabled cycling gloves for GPS-use on mountain-bike tours - a truly brilliant idea (I mean it).

I can't do a reply to this in 140 I'm afraid. So here is a compare and contrast, these two estimates for /var's size are a bit off:

box:~# du -m --max-depth=0 /var/ && df -h | grep var 2402 /var/ /dev/mapper/box-var 3.8G 3.6G 17M 100% /var

baobab reports /var at 538.1Mb.

Go figure.
Using the method @Bone Idol recommended, I have something to work on. Thanks, I will report further.

We are in a lot more healthy condition now:

box:/# du -m --max-depth=0 /var/ && df -h | grep var 1049 /var/ /dev/mapper/box-var 3.8G 1.1G 2.5G 31% /var

Chunking through dpkg -l >> file has been very instructive. I still have an underlying filesystem problem I suspect, but I have a little breathing space.

And whilst we're on the topic of seasonal music, LarryG of Funky 16 Corners is sharing a daily selection [sic] of forgotten or unknown classics.

My favourites so far this week have been:
Back Door Santa by the awesome Clarence Carter. If it doesn't make you move, you're dead.

Merry Christmas Baby by Soulful Strings. Lush yourself over the edge.

One of the things I love about this time of year is that there are a bunch of new posts on Boogie Woogie Flu (in the top 5% music blogs around IMO) about Jewish musicians. This year's post are still coming online, but so far we have:

God Help the Troubadour about Phil Ochs

The Silver Jew about David Berman

That's What the Good Book Says about something related...

Quality writing, great photos and phenomenal tunes -- get it in your RSS client and dig in the archive (there's gold).

Wow! A week since I last posted anything. So let's talk #mandarins. Followers of the els Mussols #statusnet account will know that we have picked over 2 tonnes (that would be a metric tonne not either of the other tons) of a variety that are known in Catalan as nules in the last week. Probably one more picking day this week, so we should hit 2,500kg by the end of it all. Besides the tonnes we have weighed in at the agri co-op, we have about 100kg for personal and I have probably eaten a dozen a day whilst harvesting.

Dealing with the agri co-op has been a blast as they didn't believe that los hippies ingleses could possibly be competent. Our level of acceptance has increased with every load we have taken. It makes me believe that our hard work is recognized for what it is: damn hard work for not much money and there is a level of respect for that.

Hope the folks of northern Europe enjoy 'em :)

We are really skint. When you're really skint, activities like #swapping become really important.

A finca near us is owned by a wonderful family from the Dominican Republic. They work the season in Andorran hotels and the plan was for this to become the retirement place. For various reasons this plan has changed. So the visits from Andorra are sadly infrequent, but yesterday we got one from a large subset of the family. Son-in-law has a finca on the Catalan side of the Andorran border and brought us a huge bag of #organic #apples which he makes into cider.

We have access to an orange and mandarin harvest (of which more in the coming week), so we were able to reciprocate with a sack of citrus.

The happy byproduct of all this is that Ben is experimenting with making orange and apple fruit leather.

I, like @Charles Roth, am going to take up the European Reading Challenge. I hearby instigate the tag: #erc2012 for this project.

I haven't really thought of books yet, but I am sure I will update here and I will also create an ERC2012 library at my LibraryThing.

It's always sad when good visitors go. We've had the pleasure of the company of Mick Fuzz and Hils for the last ten days. They have been a joy to have at els Mussols and much mutual exchanging of knowledge went on. Both the finca and the website will benefit from their visit.

When times are hard (as they are at the moment) it gives you a real boost to be told that what you are trying to do is "inspirational", as we were this morning when they left Xerta this morning to continue their journey south.

You can follow their adventures on the Twits On Tour blog. As well as #friendica, Mick also does #statusnest as M3shrom. They both do #facebook as well evidently, but we'll not go there...

Thanks a bunch guys, enjoy your #eggs, #oranges and #oil. Big love and hurry back.

I am currently #reading The Lancashire Witch Conspiracy: A History of Pendle Forest and the Pendle Witch Trials by John A Clayton. It is part of my small library on the Pendle Witches. I read everything I can on this topic as I am from Clitheroe, next to Pendle Hill and the Witches are part of local folklore.

The author is at the moment recounting the post-Norman Conquest constitution of the county of Lancashire and as a sideline is explaining the nature of the #feudal relationships of the population. Jeez, I thought we had it tough.
